Lovea Bio Sunscreen SPF 50

That's the sunscreen I had bought last summer from a drugstore in Belgium, for like 10 euros which makes it quite cheap compared to Muslera or Avène.

Looking back at the ingredients, however, there is this "Fragrance" part that bugs me a bit. The rest is fine, I mean there is geraniol in soap too, but well... Fragrance is not the first thing I'd look for in a sunscreen. It does not contain oxybenzone or avobenzone, it uses zinc oxide and titanium dioxyde for its sun protection, and its anti-aging component is not a vitamin-A derivative (which would make it dangerous to use in sunlight) but this 1% Monoï.

I began using it this summer, and I thing one of the drawbacks is its odour. Some people may like it, but I just don't. Still, I won't switch to an ultra-chemical sunscreen just because I don't like its scent and I can smell it only before applying it, then my nose gets used to it and it's alright for me.

One other drawback is that it feels quite oily and if some of it ever goes into my eyes, it stings. I guess these are mostly common in sunscreens, but the oiliness is a bit disturbing compared to the Avène for acne-prone skins. Here in Istanbul, the summer is hot and humid like hell, and no, there ain't any air conditioner in my dorm room or in most of the classrooms I spend my summer term in. And then when I go out, the tiny bit of makeup I had made that day gets mixed with the sweat and sunscreen. You would expect the sunscreen to wear out shortly after putting it on, but it doesn't, which is great for people like me who don't want to re-re-re-apply sunscreen every two hours. Maybe its protection diminishes a bit by the end of the day, but I can tell that it does not wear out unless I splash my face with water and wipe it with a towel. Considering that I have a sensitive skin ready to get a sunburn and some frecles if I spend more than 10 minutes out in the summer sun without sunscreen, I'm fine with the greasiness if that's what makes this product last that long. And one would also expect it to make me break out badly, but it didn't. I mean the sebum oil + sweat + makeup would make everyone break out if not cleaned correctly, and adding a sunscreen to the equation wasn't really painful to me since I take a shower every day and clean my face with a peeling effect cleanser. Some may have an allergy to the ingredients, but it seems like I don't have any and it does not make me break out.

All in all, I can say that Lovea Bio SPF 50 is a nice and cheap sunscreen for people having access to it (I have no idea if it is sold in US, but I can tell that it is not sold in Turkey), for people who are not too bothered to feel a bit greasy (after an hour or so, I think the skin absorbs the oil in it, which is not so bad since it has argania spinosa oil) and won't break out. I think it is a cheap and cheerful alternative, and it is worth trying.
